AY DIOS MIO.
I spent the better part of this morning and afternoon with Daniel going over photos from yesterday's lookbook shoot, and without getting too crazy, let me just say, everything turned out BETTER than expected.

For those of you who missed last month's event, we're doing it again!  Friday, August 26th!  Don't text me the day after asking how it was.  Be there, FOOL!
TONIGHT'S ENTREE: MY OWN WORDS.
Yep, that's what I'm eating tonight for dinner.  It wasn't that long ago at all that I made a bold statement claiming I ONLY shoot on 35mm film.  I think that was before I had car payments, because I sold out, and I went digital.  For the techies, a Nikon D5100 to be exact.

Film costs money; a lot of it.  In order to update this blog as much as I'd like to, and as efficient as I'd like to, there was just no way I was going to be able to get it done, solely using film.

The processing, developing, oops we accidentally gave yours to a guy named "Bill';  Its happened.

Without further ado, I now present to you a completely raw picture I took in my backyard, using none other than my new camera.  No photoshop.  No gimmicks.

I'm down.

ll.ove,

Matt

12.1.18 - A year ago today I would not have taken this well... at all. However, like anything in life, good things come and good things go. You have to know when to hold them, and know when to fold them.

When I started @dubtree I wanted to be @thehundreds so bad it was disgusting. I envisioned having a storefront we could skate in front of, a club house, a headquarters, etc. I was chasing something that has already been done, and done exceptionally well.

Last year I had 1/2 a chance to run a store, and then 2018 brought the opportunity to open our very own Flagship Location. I dove in "licking my chops for the opportunity" and the dream I chased had been met.

I thought I had it all figured out. I had the help. We had the sales. We started having parties. Word was getting out that @dubtree was still alive and they had their own store so they must be crushing it... or were we?

Month after month we had less to reinvest in the brand. The shelves have become bare, and the writing was on the wall; this shit wasn't going as planned.

The store was closed more often than not, but we still kept paying the bills. I didn't know what to do because it makes sense, we were still putting up numbers, but at what expense? Mentally I've had my worst year of instability in years, and with the rapid change of online Shopping vs. Brick and Mortar I came to the conclusion that we could do so much more as a brand and for the community if we skated away from having our own store.

The dream is not dead, it's just been altered. Like any challenge in life we must "stare truth in the face, and come out proud."

Words can't describe how incredibly thankful I am to everyone and anyone who has been a part of this chapter. There's too many people to thank and in fear of leaving someone out, just know, you know exactly who you are.

Our final month at our current location begins now, and in true @dubtree fashion, the store is closed today because I'm working on new holiday items via the new @dubtree Workspace. #ycstdf

From the bottom of my tired heart, thank you so damn much.

Love, Matt Dubtree
